René Hérent

16 May 1897 Cambrai – 29 December 1965 Colmar

Hérent in L'étoile
He spent his entire career, from 1918 to 1953, at the Paris Opéra-Comique, with very few guest appearances exclusively at other Paris theaters. His debut role was Guillot de Morfontaine, and he never sang anything but comprimario parts, many of the really tiny; his biggest roles were the Servants in Les contes d'Hoffmann and Peppe in Pagliacci, but he was so good at what he did that he was one of the most-beloved members of the Opéra-Comique troupe. He participated in an astounding number of world and French premieres.
