He had his first contract in Strasbourg (1903–06); 1906–08 at the Vienna Volksoper, then one season each in Mannheim, at the Centraltheater Dresden, at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna; 1913–15 again at the Vienna Volksoper, 1915–20 at the Court (State) Opera Dresden, 1921/22 a third time at the Vienna Volksoper; 1924/25 Deutsche Oper Berlin, 1925/26 Cologne, 1926–32 Hannover, 1932/33 Augsburg.

Frequent guest appearances in Dresden; he further sang in Nürnberg, Karlsruhe, Gdańsk/Danzig, at the Deutsches Theater in Prague, at the State Operas of Berlin and Vienna, and at Covent Garden.

He started as a lyrical tenor: Almaviva, Châteauneuf, Lyonel, Fenton in Falstaff. Next, he focused on operetta, but from 1913, he sang dramatic roles, and more and more Wagner: Turiddu, Florestan, Lohengrin, Siegmund, Siegfried, Parsifal, Tristan, Kaiser, Palestrina, Canio, Otello.

Last notices on him are from the 1934/35 season, when he was a stage director at the Volkstheater Lichtburg in Berlin.
