As a boy, he was a member of the famous Wiener Sängerknaben choir, and Vienna was also where he studied voice. He started his career in Wiesbaden in 1995; next, he was at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf-Duisburg 1997–2000. He very soon made lots of guest appearances at important theaters: Zürich, La Scala, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Parma, Catania, Florence, Rome, Palermo, Dresden, Stuttgart, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bregenz Festival, Madrid, Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Glyndebourne Festival, and regularly both the Staatsoper and the Volksoper in Vienna, already before becoming a member of the Volksoper troupe in 2007, and of the Staatsoper troupe in 2017.

In his early years, he was a belcanto and Mozart specialist; his most important roles were Ramiro in Cenerentola, Alberto in Rossini's Gazzetta, Almaviva, Ernesto, Belmonte, Don Ottavio and Tamino. Later on, he would sing a lot of operetta, and – primarily at the Vienna Staatsoper – many comprimario parts, but also go in a more dramatic direction: Herodes, Ägisth, Leukippos in Daphne, Mime, Froh, Erik. Also very active as a concert singer in masses and oratorios.
