Cesare Catani is a tenor who made his debut in 1996. At the Wexford 1997 festival, he sang Ubaldo in Elena da Feltre. A tape of the performance (later also issued on CD) revealed a strong voice and sounded, judging from the tape, promising.
However, it didn't last: quick rise, quick fall. In no time after his Wexford success, Catani sang in Parma, Bologna, Modena, Genova, at the Pesaro and Macerata festivals, at the Vienna Staatsoper, at La Scala, in Palermo, at the Arena di Verona, in Piacenza and Trieste; roles ranged from Alfredo to Manrico or to Chevalier de la Force. After little more than ten years, Catani's career was practically over, apart from very occasional appearances between his native Ascoli Piceno and the Marche's regional capital, Ancona. He quit the stage entirely in 2009, at about 37 years old, and made a comeback in Ascoli Piceno ten years later – as Altoum...
