His real name was Eugenio Candellone.

He began his career as a baritone and made his debut in 1887 at the Politeama Genovese in Trovatore. It was followed by Lucia di Lammermoor and Rigoletto with Emilia Corsi. After singing again in 1888 in Genova (Trovatore and Rigoletto), he stopped singing to retrain as a tenor.

In 1888, he made his tenor debut at the Carignano in Torino in the new opera Nestore by R. Rasori on November 21st, 1888. After that, he sang:

He was acclaimed as Otello and sang it in:

Kutsch & Riemens quote him as having sung Otello over 400 times, which is very unlikely in view of Mr. Marcocci's Otello chronology.
