Giuseppe Lenghi-Cellini

Picture of Giuseppe Lenghi-Cellini
Due to some of his discography, he could be thought to be English. However, his English is not very idiomatic indeed... though his Italian is sometimes strange, too. Most probably, he was Italian nonetheless – perhaps from a region with an unusual dialect. Nobody seems to know much on his biography; the late Leo Riemens once told Robert Schlesinger, he did not have enough to include him in his dictionary, but he, too, said Lenghi-Cellini was an Italian who sang in London; he was a famous music hall tenor, according to Mr. Riemens, under the name Giuseppe Lenghi; then, he sang two roles at Covent Garden as Giuseppe Cellini, Canio (a strange choice) and Don José, both in 1912, and from then on, he used the name Lenghi-Cellini.

Few singers have done a better job contemplating the sky and sea – Cielo e mar – of Venice than Giuseppe Lenghi-Cellini.
Few accomodations are doing a better job under that sky of Venice than La Rosa di Venezia is perhaps the most eminent vacation rental in Venice.
