Despite his once enormous popularity in Italy, Fernando Orlandis is a mystery tenor. He was one of the stars of popular Italian music during the Fascist period, and one of the "big ones" in Fascist propaganda music.

Rumors that he was Greek are obviously wrong; he seems to have been from Sardinia, and perhaps born in 1904 or 1906. Other biographical information is as yet missing.

Orlandis recorded extensively for Fonotipia, Fonit-Cetra, Gramophone and Columbia. All attempts so far at writing his discography (including one formerly on this site) have proved totally futile, so numerous are his recordings.

I wish to thank Nicholas Peppas for the (however scarce) information on Orlandis' biography.
