To my ears, Sabatini sounds like a Neapolitan canzoni singer, similar to Portelli for instance. Sabatini's Neapolitan dialect seems very idiomatic.
His only traceable opera appearance was in January 1930 at the Teatro Balbo in Torino, as Canio in Pagliacci.
