Sang at the Bolshoj from 1932 to 1953, primarily dramatic roles.

Among his roles in the Russian repertoire: Sobinin, German, Finn, Sadko, Vsevolod, Andrej Khovanskij, Vodemon, Andrej, Vakula, Mikhail Tucha. In the Western repertoire: Radames, Duca, Manrico, José, Arnold, Cavaradossi.

Ivan Petrov, the famous Soviet bass, wrote in his memoirs: "Another of the leading tenors of the Bolshoj was Fedotov, with whom we appeared in many operas. I remember his lyric-dramatic, soft and very beautiful voice."
