Viktor Aleksandrovich Pishchaev

9 April 1945 – 4 May 2007

The biographical facts that are available (provided online by his daughter) are somewhat cloudy. He had studied voice at the Rimskij-Korsakov Conservatory in Leningrad, and he was a member of the Malij Theater (then called Musorgskij Theater, now Mikhajlovskij Theater) in Leningrad/St. Petersburg from 1985 onwards. Well... but he was 40 in 1985! What had he done before?

In the course of his career, he also sang at the Mariinskij, the Bolshoj (he sang Andrej in Mazepa there), in Italy, Germany, France, the Netherlands, the USA and Japan. But was this prior to his residence at the Malij? Or did he get a really late start as a singer, and made all those guest appearances while already a member of the Malij? I have no idea.

In any case, he sang into the 21st century, and he was also a voice teacher. He had no relationship with Gennadij Pishchaev.

Important roles: German, Grigorij, Cavaradossi, Vodemon, José Pinkerton, Andrej Khovanskij, Otello, Don Carlo, Duca, Vladimir Igorevich.
