Vladimir Vasilyev

2 January 1944 Leningrad – 12 January 2015 Novosibirsk

Born during the siege of Leningrad into a working-class family. At 15 years old, he started working as an industrial mechanic, while studying at a school for adolescent workers, where he took part in amateur performances.

From 1967, he was a soloist in a military song-and-dance ensemble, and from 1972 a member of the famous choir of the Glinka State Academic Leningrad Capella. Simultaneously, he studied at the Leningrad conservatory with Evgenij Nesterenko, graduating in 1974.

He spent his first two seasons as a soloist at the opera theater in Ulan-Ude. From 1976 to 2004, he was a soloist of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater, and a teacher at the Novosibirsk conservatory. From 1994 onwards, he was also involved in the management of the theater.

He sang primarily lyrical parts like Duca, Alfredo, Mozart, Prince, Lenskij, Nemorino, Vladimir Igorevich, but also some comprimario parts like Shujskij, Triquet or Cassio.
