Nikolaj Veljashev-Svetlanov

About his birth, whereabouts and artistic beginnings, nothing is known. He used the names Veljashev, Svetlanov, and Veljashev-Svetlanov. His debut must have taken place in 1888.

From 1891 to 1896, he sang at the Bolshoj (debut role: Lenskij). In summer 1894, he organized a touring company that performed in Simbirsk, Kazan and Nizhnij Novgorod. He is documented in Kiev (1894) and again in Nizhnij Novgorod (1898).

Next, there is a long gap in his biography. From 1919 to 1924, he taught singing at the conservatory in Voronezh, where he died on May 12th, 1924.

His repertory comprised, other than Lenskij, Bajan, Finn, Faust, Sinodal, Prince, Berendej, Vakula in Cherevichki, Don Ottavio. He also sang operetta.
