Todor Kostov
Todor Kostov was born in Varna on the 24th August, 1928. He graduated in 1952 from the Secondary Music School in Varna as a student of Viara Zdraveva. A year after his graduation, he was engaged by the Varna Opera. After additional studies in Rome with L. Ricci of the roles of Radames and Cavaradossi, he made his debut as Cavaradossi with the Varna Opera on March 13rd, 1953. In addition to regular appearances with the Sofia Opera and other opera companies in Bulgaria, he appeared in Romania in 1956, Czechoslovakia 1957–61, the USSR, Yugoslavia, and Belgium. Major roles of his career included Radames, Don José, Manrico, Don Carlo, Faust, Cavaradossi and Riccardo in Ballo in maschera. Operas listed in the obituary: Tosca, Carmen, Macbeth, Otello, Don Carlo, Il trovatore, Aida, Norma, Ariadne auf Naxos, Tsar Kalojan (role: Balduin, composer: Vladigerov), Pikovaja dama, Andrea Chénier.
