His life was centered around Tartu, where he studied voice, and spent his entire career at the Vanemuine Theater. He started in
1944 as a chorister (singing also the occasional comprimario part from 1948 on), and officially became a soloist in 1950, going on
with comprimario parts for another few years. In 1953, he switched to main roles, singing Faust,
Alfredo, Hoffmann, Turiddu, Ülo (Vikerlased by Aav), Ferrando, Radames, Pedro or Sergej (Katerina Izmajlova). For the last
fifteen or so years of his career, which lasted until 1985, he went back to his comprimario origins.
