He graduated in 1939 from the Kaunas conservatory (classes
of Oreste Marini and E. Vilingas).
From 1939 to 1941, he sang at the State Theatre in Kaunas. From 1941 to 1964, he was a soloist of the Vilnius opera theater.
From 1963 to 1988, Gutauskas taught singing at the J. Tallat Kelpšos School of Music in Vilnius.
His repertory included: Faust, Roméo, Tybalt, José, Shujskij, Sinodal, Duca, Don Carlo, Pinkerton,
Liutauras (Gražina by Jurgis Karnavičius), Vaškys (Marytė by Antanas Račiūnas),
Jurgelis (Dalia by Balys Dvarionas), Danyla (Pilėnai by Vytautas Klova), Naglis (Vaiva by Vytautas Klova), Andrej
(Mazepa), Alfredo, Radames, Cavaradossi, Rodolfo, besides his concert repertory (Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Verdi's Requiem,
Rossini's Stabat mater, Račiūnas' cantata Soviet Lithuania, Klenickis' cantata Marija Melnikaitė, etc ... ).
