Emiel de Jonghe
In Carmen, with Antoinette Bauters
At the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, De Jonghe sang only one season (1960/61), and only two minor roles: the Innkeeper in
Janáček's Cunning little vixen (7 performances), and Borsa in Rigoletto (5 performances). In the Belgian provinces, he would
sing principal parts, however: e.g. Chénier in Ghent, or Don José, Faust, Rodolfo between 1962 and 1966 in Verviers. There is
a live recording of the Belgian opera The bruid der zee by Jan Blockx, with De Jonghe in the leading tenor part, from an 1961 Antwerp
performance, which was available on CD for a very short time only.
I wish to thank Christian Torrent for the picture and most of the biographical information.
