Roberto Maggiolo

Picture of Roberto Maggiolo

Roberto Maggiolo singsTristan und Isolde: Kurwenal! He!, with Hans Hotter
Argentinean tenor. Only his tenure at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires is documented. He sang there from 1942 to 1950 – obviously first as a guest, and from 1944 as a regular member of the troupe.

He sang quite a few main parts, but in a very limited number of performances (mostly perhaps as a last-minute substitute): Nemorino (just one performance in 1942, his debut at the Colón), Almaviva, Paolo (Paolo e Virginia by María Curubeto Godoy, world premiere on 12 October 1946), Duca di Mantova, Edgardo, Jeník, Fernando (La viejecita by Manuel Fernández Caballero). His standard fare, however, were secondary roles: Frère Poète (Le jongleur de Notre-Dame), Young man (L'amore dei tre re), Gonzalvo (L'heure espagnole), Domingo (La sangue de la guitarras by Constantino Gaito), First Sailor (Skazka o tsare Saltane/The tale of Tsar Saltan), Borsa, First Guard (Manon), Piki-Chaki (Aylantay by Constantino Gaito), Second Student (Aurora by Héctor Panizza), Normanno, Poète/Marchand d'habits (Louise), Edmondo (Manon Lescaut), David, Flavio, both Mimes, Principe Quitupí/Trovador (Erase un rey by Juan Casanova Vicuña), Shepherd (Tristan und Isolde), Kilian (Freischütz), Pang, Arturo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Mastro Trabuco, Monostatos, Voice of a blacksmith (La vida breve), Cardona (Doña Francisquita), Beppe, Anibal (Luisa Fernanda), Ruiz, Gastone, Pachín (Marianela by Jaume Pahissa), Indalecio (Gualicho by Alfredo Pinto), Leonetto (Boccaccio by Franz von Suppé).
