Jean Michel was a comprimario at both major Paris opera theaters from the late 1940s through at least the mid-1960s. He made his debut at
the Opéra on 9 May 1947 as the Astrologer in Zolotoj petushok (The golden cockerel), and at the Opéra-Comique on 3
January 1948 as the Noctambule in Louise. He sang a lot of small roles, from Parpignol and Nathanael to Cassio and the Simpleton.
