Roberto Miranda

Picture of Roberto Miranda

Robert Miranda singsA compadecida: Quem é? É Manuel?, with Assis Pacheco, Carlos Walter and Newton Paiva
Two tenors in this selection, but no confusion: Assis Pacheco is the one with the brilliant, almost heroic voice, Miranda the one with the meager comprimario voice.

Brazilian comprimario tenor, long-term member of the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro, minimum from the late 1930s well into the 1960s. A very active concert singer, as well, and already during his career (and beyond, of course), a busy voice teacher at the university in Rio de Janeiro; Glória Queiroz and Aldo Baldin were among his students.

In his younger years, he also sang some main roles, at least Americo in Gomes' Lo schiavo, as a second or third cast after, for instance, Galliano Masini, Assis Pacheco or Alfredo Colosimo. In 1939/40, he toured all of Brazil with a company headed by Elias Reis e Silva. Miranda specialized in contemporary Brazilian music, particularly by the composing brothers José and Baptista Siqueira. He was Manuel (Jesus) in the world premiere of José Siqueira's opera A compadecida in Rio on 5 November 1961.
