It's easy to be fooled by the Spanish name, but this tenor was from Monforte San Giorgio in northeastern
Sicily – the Ponz de Leon are an important family there. Manfredi Ponz de Leon was a radio singer in the 1950s on the national Italian
radio RAI, where he sang chamber music, and comprimario roles in opera. He also sang on the Swiss radio. I found no evidence that he ever sang
in public. Also his radio career doesn't seem to have been long; he was later a voice professor in Rome, and above all, artistic director of
the RAI archives.
