Willy Hofmann
He worked in a bank while studying voice in his native Frankfurt. In 1933, he made his debut with a
touring opera company; for the next eleven years, he was a comprimario in opera: in Gera, Münster, Nürnberg, Ulm, and
finally in Wiesbaden.
After WWII, he devoted himself exclusively to operetta, again mostly in buffo roles – on various operetta stages, on
record, and on the radio. He was an excellent actor, and gained considerable popularity.
