After learning the trade of a car mechanic, Kopp studied voice at the Prague conservatory from 1973 to
1979. He sang in an army ensemble from 1977 to 1981, then at the National Theater in Prague, and eventually (from 1997 to 2008)
in his native Plzeň. Originally both a lyrical and a buffo tenor (Jeník as well as Vašek in Prodaná
nevěsta, Ernesto, Alfredo, Pelléas), he grew into more dramatic roles in the 1990s: Don Carlo, Prince in Rusalka,
Števa Burja, Boris in Káťa Kabanová.
