Erin Caves
In RA format
Born in Wilmington (Delaware) and raised in Stockton (California), Caves studied voice and
music at Oberlin College, Yale University and Juilliard School. He began his career at small US theaters, as a baritone. In
1997, he went to Europe, where he was a member of the Theater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen from 1998 to 2003. In 2001, he
switched to singing tenor. From 2003, he sang in Weimar for a few seasons, then he was well-known enough to make it as a
freelancer: at numerous, mostly secondary theaters in Germany (Essen, Nürnberg, Bonn, Kassel, Kaiserslautern and so on,
but also Frankfurt), in Linz, Ljubljana, at the New York City Opera; later a lot in Stuttgart, and also in Zürich, Graz,
Wiesbaden, Karlsruhe, Düsseldorf & Duisburg, Hannover, at the Berlin Staatsoper, in Rome or in Madrid.
His repertory was almost entirely heroic: Max, Stolzing, Erik, Loge, Siegmund, Tristan, Don Carlo, Werther, Cavaradossi,
Jeník, Don José, Bacchus, Tambourmajor, Alwa...
In a November 2023 tweet, Caves seemed to hint at his retirement from the stage.
