John Potter
One of Potter's teachers was Peter Pears. He was a member of the BBC Singers radio chamber
choir, and from 1984 to 2001, of the Hilliard Ensemble (an internationally successful vocal chamber group). In 1989, he founded his own
vocal ensemble, Red Byrd; they produced also baroque opera. Potter gave a lot of solo concerts, too. He sang exclusively early and
contemporary music.
From 1998, he taught voice at the University of York.
