From a family of artists, he was to become a painter, but in 1933, he started training his voice instead at the Paris conservatory. In 1937, he made his debut in a supporting part in Lakmé at the Opéra-Comique. He stayed at that theater for ten years. The rest of his career was spent at the large provincial opera theaters of France: Marseille, Bordeaux, Lyon, Toulouse, Nice, Strasbourg, Lille, Toulon... He also appeared in Belgium, Switzerland and Algeria, and sang a lot in the concert hall and on the radio. |
I wish to thank Christian Torrent for the broadside (from 1948). |
