Josef Köstlinger
Köstlinger studied in Salzburg to become a teacher, but in 1968, he went to Sweden and studied voice
instead. He was accepted into the choir of the Swedish radio. In 1973, he began to sing solo parts at the Stockholm opera, and
the following year, he was chosen by Ingmar Bergman to sing Tamino in his Zauberflöte film that became famous. (That film
is always tagged "1975", but that's the release date; it was shot in 1974.)
The same year, 1974, Köstlinger was engaged by the small permanent theater in Salzburg, where he stayed for the rest of his
career, 30 years. He was, not least, a specialist for contemporary music.
I would like to thank Thomas Silverbörg for the recording.
