Michael Pabst
born 7 August 1942 Graz
Pabst started singing late, in 1972, as a chorister at the Vienna Staatsoper (until 1980),
occasionally singing small solo parts (also as a guest at the permanent theater in Salzburg). His debut as a singer of main
roles came in 1981 in Augsburg, where he stayed three years. In 1984, he came to the Volksoper Vienna, where he was to be a
member for the rest of his career; albeit with many guest appearances elsewhere: Vienna Staatsoper (70 performances from 1991 to
1999), Cologne (regular guest 1989–92), La Scala (Erik 1988, Hüon 1989), Barcelona, Bordeaux (Bacchus 1985, Siegfried
1988), Bregenz, Bologna, Stuttgart,
Karlsruhe, Philadelphia and Houston (Bacchus 1985/86), Zürich, Basel, Frankfurt, Cape Town, Brussels (Siegmund 1992),
Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires (Teatro Colón), Munich, Hamburg, Geneva, Savonlinna and Edinburgh festivals, ...
