Erik Wirl
Successful boy soprano. Debut as a tenor 1906 at the Bayreuth Festival (Young Seaman in Tristan). Many years in Frankfurt followed (1906–22), where he sang in the world premiere of Schreker's Der ferne Klang. In the 1920s, he sang primarily operetta in Berlin and Wien. From 1927 to 1931 a member of the Kroll Opera in Berlin, and from 1928 to 1933 of the Berlin Staatsoper; now, he sang the heroic repertory. Later, he returned to operetta; retired in 1942. He appeared in several films, as well. |
