Cesare Boezi

22 February 1858 Roma – 27 April 1927 Roma

Cesare Boezi sings Messa di San Bonaventura (Capocci): Laudamus te ... Gratias agimus tibi, with Alessandro Moreschi (castrato) and Augusto Dadò (bass)

The fact that Cesare Boezi is somewhat better documented than his fellow soloists at the papal choirs around 1900 is certainly due to his brother: Ernesto Boezi (1856–1946) was a renowned conductor, composer and organist, in sacred music and beyond; and his star shone bright enough to shed some light on his younger sibling, too.

Cesare Boezi was a choir soloist at the papal basilica San Giovanni in Laterano, and sang at the Sistine Chapel and the Cappella Giulia (the choir of St. Peter's), as well. He gave solo concerts in Roman churches, but also in concert halls; and at least once, he even sang a concert performance of an opera: the title role in Weber's Oberon, in Italian, conducted by his brother and performed by the Società Musicale Romana (June 1882). Above is Cesare Boezi's entire recorded output; he was famous for his renditions of Capocci's music.
