Renzo Casellato
He studied voice at the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello in Venice with Maria Carbone. He started in
the late 1950s as a concert tenor and operatic comprimario. His first leading role was Nemorino at the Teatro Regio in Parma
in 1963. The same year, he was already at La Scala as Fenton, and soon also in Rome, Venice, Naples, Torino and at the Maggio
musicale in Florence, in Bologna, Palermo, Bergamo. Abroad, he appeared at the Colón in Buenos Aires, in Rio de
Janeiro, Gent, Paris, Marseille, Toulouse, Nice, Monte Carlo, at the Vienna Staatsoper and the Bolshoj, and frequently in
Chicago and Dallas. He sang also a lot in concert, and on the Italian radio RAI. He sang into the mid-1990s.
His repertory included Almaviva, Don Ramiro, Nadir, Tito (La clemenza di Tito), Ernesto, Edgardo, Paolino (Il
matrimonio segreto), Orombello (Beatrice di Tenda), Alfredo, Werther, Prunier (La rondine), Edrisi
(Król Roger by Szymanowski).
