1933–1999
Gioia was born in Villarosa, Sicily. His voice destined him to be a great lyric tenor such as
Tagliavini, Schipa, Valletti, Alva and Di Stefano.
A brain disorder forced him to abandon a very promising artistic career.
His recovery in a hospital of Siracusa took a long time.
His repertory included La sonnambula, Manon and L'elisir d'amore.
Outside Italy, he sang in Toulouse, Baden, Dublin and Lima. He took part in concerts
with singers such as Magda Olivero, Fiorella Ortis and Edda Vincenzi.
