He studied voice in Rome and Brescia and made his first public appearance in 1938, in a Verdi concert in Busseto. In May 1946, he was well-known enough to be chosen by Arturo Toscanini for the post-war inauguration of La Scala with Beethoven's 9th Symphony. His career centered around the Rome opera and La Scala. He also sang a lot in Palermo and at the Terme di Caracalla in Rome. 1951–53 and 1954/55, he was a member of the Met, where he sang Alfredo, Duca, Pinkerton, Rodolfo, Massenet's des Grieux, Gounod's Faust and Don Ottavio. Guest appearances in Buenos Aires (Teatro Colón), Rio de Janeiro, Chicago, San Francisco, Lisbon, Barcelona, Florence, Cagliari, Brescia... He sang until about 1970.
