Scalabrini was born in Verona, and there he studied singing with maestro Camozzini. Before his debut,
he sang in some private recitals.
He made his stage debut in September 1901 at the Carani at Sassuolo as Manrico, with Maria Trimarchi.
He was engaged many times and
for long periods in touring opera companies such as Lombardi or Gonzales and sang
in many East European and American houses.

His repertory included: Manrico, Ernani, Turiddu, Canio, Chénier, Radames, Riccardo,
Éléazar, Alvaro, Enzo, Duca, Alfredo, Pery, ...
He was a special artist of some sort. His Favorite records were issued with a
pink label. Roberto Marcocci found also some bi-colored records with only Scalabrini's
side pink and the other side black. That is really mysterious.
