Tadeusz Leliwa was born Wincenty Tadeusz Kopystyński. In Italy, he sang under the name Enzo Leliva.

Leliwa studied medicine at the Kiev university and law at the Warsaw university. Simultaneously, he studied singing with Ekaterina Massini in Kiev and with W. Aleksandrowicz in Warsaw, then in Paris with Jean de Reszke and in Milano with Augusto Brogi.

Ekaterina Massini, 1838–1912; she sang in Odessa (1868–74), Kiev (1874–76), Moscow (Bolshoj, 1876–81), and for the 1878/79 season, she went on tour to Kazan with Medvedev's company. That she sang at La Scala in 1866 is an unfounded rumor.
At the beginning of his career, Leliwa was a soloist of the Lysenko choir in Kiev.

He made his stage debut in Saratov (1901), then sang in Kiev (1902–04, tour 1907–09, 1910–12, 1915–19), Warsaw (1902–04 upon recommendation of the violinist Stanislaw Barcewicz, making his debut as Radames, appearing also as German, Mazepa (Mazepa by Adam Münchheimer), Duca, Chopin, Jontek, and again in 1914), Lemberg/Lviv), Vilnius (during his Warsaw period), Torino (Regio, 1904 as Mylio on invitation by Leoncavallo who had heard him in Warsaw), Napoli (San Carlo, 1905), Palermo, Genova (Carlo Felice, 1905 and 1913), Milano (Teatro Lirico, 1905, as Jontek; La Scala, 1907/08, as Raoul and Radames), Saint Petersburg (Novaja Opera, as Enzo and José), Ciudad de Mexico (1907), Odesa (as a guest from 1907 to 1909), Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, Buenos Aires (1908), Covent Garden (1909, as Pinkerton and Canio), Boston (1909, as Turiddu and Alfredo), Chicago, New York (1909), Tbilisi (1910/11), Krakow and Bologna.

He came back to Warsaw at the beginning of the First World War and sang mostly concerts in Warsaw and Kiev. He sang for the last time in 1919 as Jontek in Kiev. Because of deafness, he had to stop singing.

He possessed a sonorous voice with a beautiful timbre, good dramatic skills, excellent mezza voce and theatrical temperament.

His repertory also included: Henning Mollner (Der Roland von Berlin, Italian premiere, 19 January 1905 in Genova), Sobinin, Fernando, Riccardo or Samson.

1922 to 1929, Leliwa taught singing at the Warsaw conservatory.

His records are rare, the Odeons almost unknown.
