Vasil Feodosijovych Kozeratskyj

December 31, 1905 (January 13, 1906) – November 29, 1982

Kozeratskyj was born on December 31, 1905 (January 13, 1906) in Selo Gruzko, region of Odessa.

In 1931, Kozeratskyj graduated from the Odessa Musical Theatrical Beethoven Institute. The same year, Kozeratskyj started singing operettas, making his debut in Kharkiv, then went on to other Ukrainian operetta theaters.

From 1937, Kozeratskyj was a soloist of the Kiev Operetta Theater.

1951 to 1959, Kozeratskyj was a soloist at the Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian National Opera House in Kiev.

His repertory (60 roles according to sources) included: Lykov, German, Vakula (Rizdvjana nich/The night before Christmas by Lysenko), Vakula (Noch pered Rozhdestvom/The night before Christmas by Rimskij-Korsakov), Andrij (Taras Bulba), Canio, Andrij (Zaporozhets za Dunajem), Torop (Askoldova mogila/Askold's grave by Verstovskij), Radames, Cavaradossi, Riccardo, Vasyl (Milana by Majboroda), Bogun (Bogdan Khmelnytskyj by Konstantin Dankevych), Pierre Bezukhov, Sobinin, Grigorij, José ...

In 1960, he started teaching at the Musical Studio of the Kiev Light Operetta Theater; in 1963, he taught at the Karpenko-Karyj Theater Insitute; and in 1965 at the Kiev conservatory.

Among his recordings are: a 1957 recording of Kateryna (by Mykola Arkas) as Andrij with L. Lobanova, L. Rudenko, M. Chastij, V. Lutchenko, V. Lipova, Z. Sorokina, narrated by M. Smekhov, chorus and symphony orchestra of the Ukrainian Radio, conducted by K. Simeonov;
a recording of Knjaz Igor with D. Hnatjuk, L. Lobanova-Rogacheva, B. Hmyrja, P. Hajchuk, L. Rudenko, P. Ivanov, chorus and orchestra of the T. Shevchenko State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, conducted by N. Pokrovskij.
