He studied voice at the Saratov conservatory. After graduation in 1979, he came to the opera house in Nizhnij
Novgorod (then called Gorkij) as a soloist – he was to stay there for the rest of his career and life. From 1992 to 1994, he
made a few guest appearances abroad: in opera in Turkey (Knjaz Igor in Ankara), North Macedonia (Duca and Alfredo in Skopje) and
France (Cavaradossi), in concert in the UK and Italy.
His repertory further included Edgardo, Riccardo, José, Canio, Nemorino, Lenskij, Vodemon, Andrej (Mazepa), Sobinin, German,
Prince, Lykov, Almaviva, Grigorij, Synodal, Mozart, Gusar (Mavra by Stravinsky).
