Lomonosov was born in Berjosovaja Luka (Ukraine) on 1 February 1939. Initially, he worked as a technician in the semiconductor
industry.
He began his vocal studies at the central cultural institution for railway workers, where he also made his debut as Cassio. In 1975, Lomonosov finished the Gnesin Academy in the class of E. S. Belov.
From 1967, Lomonosov was a soloist at the Moscow Chamber Musical Theater, while continuing his vocal studies at the Gnesin Academy with
Evgenij Belov; he graduated in 1975. Already in 1974, he became a soloist at the Bolshoj.
His repertory included: Radames, Sobinin, Grigorij, German, Sadko, Lykov, Duca, Manrico, Alfredo, Pierre Bezukhov etc.
He quit the operatic stage in 2002, but continued to give concerts.
