Jurij Marusin was born on December 8, 1945 in Kizel, located in the Ural.
First, he worked in a mine, then served in the army.
Since 1972, Marusin was a soloist at the Malij Theatre (Leningrad).
Marusin finished the Leningrad Rimskij-Korsakov Conservatory in 1975
in the class of Professor Olkhovskij.
Marusin trained at La Scala (1977/78).
Since 1980, Marusin was a soloist at the Mariinskij.
In his repertoiry, he had more than fifty operas by Russian and foreign composers.

the award for the best foreign singer of the season for
his perfomance of Gabriele in Simon Boccanegra with

At the Salzburg Festival of 1990, Marusin sang Don Juan in Kamennyj gost/The stone guest by Dargomyzhskij.
Marusin toured Italy, France, Spain, the USA, Japan, China,
Canada, Belgium, Holland, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Austria (Vienna Staatsoper, where he sang Golitsyn eight times in 1989,
Grigorij three times in 1989, as well, and Lenskij four times in 1989 and 1990), Luxembourg, and
Israel.
Marusin took part in video and audio recordings of Pikovaja dama, Ruslan i Ljudmila, Khovanshchina, Gianni Schicchi,
La forza del destino, Vojna i mir, Iolanta, as well as in three films.
Marusin also made three solo records with chamber music by Russian and
foreign composers.
Marusin was the winner of three international competitions:
Erkel (Budapest, Hungary); Viotti (Vercelli, Italy, 1976);
and the competition of laureates of the international competitions
(Pleven, Bulgaria, 1978).
