Born in Russia (Belgorod district) into a Ukrainian family, he took private singing lessons. He started his career in
the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Baltic fleet in 1958. 1964–70, he was a soloist at the Perm opera, 1970–74 in
Sverdlovsk (today Ekaterinburg), and from 1974 onwards, in Dnipropetrovsk (today Dnipro).
His repertory included: Bohun (Bohdan Khmelnytskyj by Dankevych), Vladimir Igorevich, Lykov, Vodemon, Lenskij, Grigorij, Alfredo,
Riccardo, Duca, Faust, Rodolfo, Almaviva, Aleksej (Optimisticheskaja tragedija by Kholminov).
