José Bros

José Bros was born on 2 April 1965 in Barcelona, where his parents were running a famous pastry shop and where he also made his vocal studies. Debut in 1987 in Palma de Mallorca in Carmina burana. Significant success came in 1992 in Anna Bolena at the Teatre del Liceu in his hometown, partnering Edita Gruberová. As a consequence, he was engaged at many important theaters: La Scala, Covent Garden, Vienna Staatsoper, Munich, Hamburg, Teatro Real in Madrid, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, San Francisco, Teatro S. Carlo in Naples, Zürich, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Toulouse, Parma, Rome and many more.

His repertory encompassed mostly belcanto roles (Lucia di Lammermoor, Roberto Devereux, Lucrezia Borgia, Fille du régiment, Favorite, Sonnambula, Pirata, Puritani, Don Pasquale...), Mozart (Entführung aus dem Serail, Zauberflöte, Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte) and few (relatively) heavier roles such as Werther, Duca di Mantova or Massenet's des Grieux.

José Bros sings Lucia di Lammmermoor: Chi mi frena, with Andrea Martin, Mariola Cantarero, Giorgio Surian, Luisa Islam Ali Zade and Alexander Blechinger
A treacherous recording – Cantarero was terrible live, but is just acceptable on the recording. The others sound as they should.
