After vocal studies in Milano (among others with Mercedes Llopart, the teacher of Alfredo Kraus),
Domínguez made his debut at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City in 1967 as Cavaradossi.
He made his career, other than in Mexico City, in his native Caracas (where he was very popular), in Boston, Dallas, Hartford, Miami, New
Orleans and Cincinnati, with guest appearances in Montréal, Milwaukee, Stamford, San Diego, Leeds, Nancy, Torre del Lago, Rio de Janeiro,
Santiago de Chile and so on, and in 1992 also at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires (Cavaradossi) – but never at the Met, albeit some
internet sources say so.
For the better part of his career, he sang rather lyrical roles (Duca, Alfredo, Edgardo, Rodolfo), but from the mid-1980s, he ventured into
heavier repertory, as far as Dick Johnson, Pollione, Chénier, Radames and Otello. His latest appearance that I could trace was a 1996
Otello in Cincinnati.
