Enrique Gandía

Enrique Gandía was a zarzuela tenor active at least from the 1900s to the 1920s. Although he must have been quite well-known at his time (cf. the above August 1920 magazine cover), his career is all but undocumented. On 22 January 1910 at the Teatro Real in Madrid, he participated in a "patriotic performance to erect a monument to caporal Noval". On 9 July of the same year at the Teatro Apolo (in Madrid, as well), he sang Fernando in the world premiere of La reina Mimi by Amadeo Vives. He made recordings for Gramophone and Odeon between 1905 and 1921, approximately.

Enrique Gandía singsLa fosca: Ay, infeliz! morir así
La fosca, a zarzuela by Luis Arnedo, is a parody of Tosca; but as you'll hear, it includes Aida as well as "Musica proibita" all in one go. Gandía sang in the work's 1905 world premiere in Madrid.
