He was an accountant when his voice was discovered during military service. While still studying in Barcelona, he already sang small parts at the
Teatre del Liceu. Plácido Domingo, when leaving the Tel Aviv opera theater in 1965, placed him as his successor there; Lloveras stayed
until 1969, then he went to West Germany: Krefeld, Mönchengladbach, and from 1973 Hamburg. From 1977, he was also a regular guest at the
Deutsche Oper Berlin as well as in Köln. He further appeared in Hannover, Düsseldorf and Duisburg, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Lille, Lyon,
at the Paris Opéra, the Liceu, Covent Garden, in Amsterdam, San Francisco, Houston. From 1976 to 1981, he was at the Vienna Staatsoper
several times, and in 1979/80 and 1981/82 at the New York Met.
His signature role was Manrico; he also sang Duca, Alfredo, Riccardo, Don Alvaro, Macduff, Don Carlo, Turiddu, Pinkerton, Calaf, Edgardo, Enzo
Grimaldo, Andrea Chénier, Gounod's Faust, Werther, Italienischer Sänger, Narraboth, Henry (Die schweigsame Frau), Laca,
Andrej Khovanskij and even Stefan in Straszny dwór (The haunted manor).
