Zaccaria Marques
4 November 1927 Muriaé – 27 February 1985 Rio de Janeiro
Already as a teenager, he sang with amateur bands. He studied accounting, and soon had his voice trained, first in Juiz de
Fora, then (from 1946) in Rio de Janeiro. His first job as a professional singer was in a church choir.
He started into the world of opera in 1953 as a member of the Teatro Experimental de Ópera in Rio de Janeiro. From 1956, he sang
secondary parts at the Teatro Municipal, and in 1958, he got his first leading role: Rodolfo. He developed into one of Rio's (and Brazil's)
foremost tenors in both opera and concert. He made guest appearances in São Paulo, at the Colón in Buenos Aires, at the Teatro
Massimo in Palermo, in La Plata, Caracas or Santiago de Chile.
